[22:37] * Anthony Suthers pulls the sheet off of a huge pile of Virtual Reality gear hooked up to numerous electrical devices.
[22:37] <Anthony Suthers> Do you... do you think you need a sedative to help the procedure?
[22:38] * Anthony Suthers starts hooking up the oxygen tanks to a scavenger-type gas mask.
[22:38] * Kakanue smiles softly, "If you think it'll help."
[22:39] <Anthony Suthers> ....If there is a problem, I' can inject it during the procedure. I keep a dose with me at all times.
[22:39] <Kakanue> Then I'll go without to start.
[22:39] <Anthony Suthers> Okay, If you truly want to know what this is all about, then put those VR gloves on, and sit in that chair. Try to relax, okay?
[22:40] * Kakanue nods and does as instructed, putting on the gloves and reclining into the chair
[22:40] <Anthony Suthers> I think it might help me if you let me put some EEG pins on your head to take conductivity reading as you experienced the procedure.
[22:41] <Anthony Suthers> Do you mind? They are probably not necessary, but I suspect they will come in handy. Is it okay?
[22:41] <Kakanue> Of course.
[22:42] <Anthony Suthers> Alright.
[22:43] *** Tony slowly, but with a practiced eye, places EEG monitors over different parts of Kakanue's scalp, in order to take measurements, and then hooks them all up to a nearby computer.
[22:43] <Anthony Suthers> Alright. Have you ever had surgery? You know the little thing they put on your finger or ear to take your pulse?
[22:44] <Kakanue> I've never had surgery, but I know what you're talking about yes.
[22:44] <Anthony Suthers> There is a device like that in the Glove Peripheral, so I'll know if you are unstable. I just want you to know you are in good hands.
[22:44] <Anthony Suthers> I'm... I'm really honored you trust me this much.
[22:44] <Kakanue> I'm glad to be of help to you.
[22:45] * Anthony Suthers give s amile that is genuine, and a little sad.
[22:45] <Anthony Suthers> Alright. Here comes the peripherals. This will cover your eyes. Let me know if it's too tight, because it would be foolish not to see to yoru comfort.
[22:46] *** Tony takes a large set of Virtual-Reality type goggles, and gently straps them over Kakanue's eyes as she sits in the chair. They are well-padded, and quite comfortable, and show a soft pink pattern that says "test" after he mounts them over her face.
[22:47] <Anthony Suthers> Alright, now they should not have started yet, so you should see a "Test" icon, to note that they are in stand-by mode.
[22:47] <Kakanue> Yes
[22:47] <Anthony Suthers> I haven't placed the ear-peice so you can still hear me.
[22:48] * Anthony Suthers adjusts the brightness, to not be too much for Kakanue, by guaging the EEG readouts. "Does this look okay?"
[22:48] <Kakanue> Yes
[22:48] <Anthony Suthers> Okay.
[22:50] * Anthony Suthers plugs the Eye Visor into a computer projection system to run diagnostics on it. It blinks softly before Kekanue's eyes.
[22:50] <Anthony Suthers> Alright, that's into the optical component.
[22:51] <Anthony Suthers> You comfortable? Is it too tight?
[22:51] <Anthony Suthers> Is the headrest okay? I mean, you'll be here for a while.
[22:51] <Kakanue> I'm fine
[22:51] <Anthony Suthers> Alright. I'm going to attach the breathing mask now.
[22:52] <Kakanue> Okay
[22:53] * Anthony Suthers brings over a scavenging combination nose-and-mouth mask and straps it over Kakanues Nose and mouth, attaching it to the visor for stability.
[22:53] <Anthony Suthers> Alright, is that on okay?
[22:53] <Kakanue> Mhmm
[22:53] <Anthony Suthers> I'm going to hook up the input/output hoses now, and you'll be breathing straight from the tanks.
[22:54] *** Anthony proceeds to attach inhalation and exhalation hoses to Kakanue's respirator, and feeds them through corresponding holes on a heavy black hemisphere on the ground.
[22:55] * Anthony Suthers turns on the Oxygen. Alright, let me know if there are leaks? Does it feel right?
[22:55] * Kakanue gives the thumbs up
[22:56] <Anthony Suthers> Okay. I'm going to put on the earpieces now and hook them up. Then I'll close the apparatus to keep our deal covert. I'll feed you the information you want, and it will be for your eye only, now matter how much they watch us.
[22:57] <Anthony Suthers> Are you relaxed?
[22:58] * Kakanue thumbs up again
[22:58] *** The visor starts to glow gently orange as more of the gear is hooked up. Anthony hooks the peripherals up to a nearby computer, and then places padded and cushioned earphones onto Kakanue's ears.
[22:58] * Anthony Suthers speaks into a microphone through the earphones. "Are you good? I'm going to close it and start now. You sure this is what you want?"
[22:59] * Kakanue manages a slight nod and gives the thumbs up a third time
[23:00] * Anthony Suthers feeds the leads through black hemisphere, and then plugs in the final cords to hook the VR gear to the computer next to him.
[23:01] * Anthony Suthers takes a large, opaque sphere, and screws it closed around Kakanue's head, making sure not to pull anything loose, but completely isolating what's about to happen even from an observer who would hear the speakers in her ears. He closes it, and isolates her from the world completely.
[23:02] * Kakanue is completely still and silent
[23:03] * Anthony Suthers looks over with the same sad look on his face, then activates the helmet mic to the otherwie-deafened Kakanue. "Don't worry. That barrier is my own design, and it's proofed against laser mics, EMP, and even EM eavesdropping. I'm going to start the procedure now, and I promise that I won't leave your side. If it gets too much for you I'll sedate you and release you."
[23:04] * Kakanue smiles again and nods, giving one final thumbs up
[23:04] *** Anthony turns the final nobs on the computer and starts the VR interface up, as well as gives power to the gloves so she can interact and silently respond.
[23:04] * Anthony Suthers flips the switch.
[23:05] <Anthony Suthers> And here, Amanda Sharlan, is what you truly need to know about the world.
[23:06] * Anthony Suthers silently walks over, pulls his pinky finger down, and pulls out his own input jack,and plugs it into VR simulation computer so he can give her body signals direcly. He stands silently there... neither of them speaking.
[23:06] <Anthony Suthers> You'll thank me. You'll thank me eventually.
[23:09] *** The room is absolutely silent. A suited figure in a bulky VR apparatus that is totally isolated from the world, and Anthony Suthers, feeding information to the VR program.
[23:11] *** Strange lights on the machine start blinking, and the EEGs that record subconscious responses start lighting up.
[23:11] <Anthony Suthers> I was afraid of this.
[23:12] * Anthony Suthers intensifies the signals.
[23:12] * Anthony Suthers steps up the tempo of the Stimuli, and increases oxygen flow.
[23:12] * Anthony Suthers flicks another switch.
[23:13] <Anthony Suthers> Please, Amanda. Please trust me enough to let me set you free.
[23:14] * Kakanue is completely calm and relaxed in the chair, off in her own world as she listens to and watches the VR screen in front of her with a soft smile on her face
[23:22] *** The beeping and readings continue, and the oxygen bag slowly inflates and deflates.
[23:22] <Anthony Suthers> ...Come on, come on. Trust me. Relax and trust me!
[23:24] * Anthony Suthers holds his arm out, and a long hypodermic emerges from near his elbow, filled with a strange fluid. He stands next to Kakanue, and looks at the readings, ready just in case.
[23:26] * Kakanue is still quite calm, if anything a bit surprised at what's happening before her
[23:29] * Anthony Suthers holds Kakanue's hand, gently.
[23:33] * Anthony Suthers adjusts the feeds and stimuli going to Amanda's senses, and still gently holds her hand.
[23:36] <Anthony Suthers> I'm here. I understand.
[23:37] * Kakanue tenses up slightly at some of the things she sees and hears, but is still calm
[23:42] * Anthony Suthers holds her hand supportively, but keeps the program running--since some things are as necessary as they are unpleasant.
[23:47] * Anthony Suthers looks at the readings. "Time to start phase two." He flips another switch. "Subliminal mind, here we come."
[23:47] * Anthony Suthers keeps smiling the same, sad smile, and the new program parameters take affect on his subject.
[23:50] * Kakanue curiously waits for the next phase
[23:52] <Anthony Suthers> Alright, Amanda, you poor thing. Let's find out exactly why you immediately had a physiological reaction when your mentor's brother gave you a pre-arranged signal.
[23:54] *** Tony takes the long needle coming from his arm, and---mercifully hidden from his sensory-isolated comrade, sticks the needle into her arm. He slowly injects a pre-calculated amount of dissociative tranquilizers and mild euphorics.
[23:55] * Anthony Suthers mutters to himself "better safe than sorry," and then starts the subliminal phase of the program.
[23:55] * Kakanue is still smiling softly, lying completely relaxed and nearly limp in the chair as the tranquilizers take effect
[23:59] <Anthony Suthers> Well, it's clear where to start.
[00:00] * Anthony Suthers flicks some more switches, and looks at the brainwave diagrams.
[00:02] * Kakanue frowns and grows irritated, clenching her fist and shaking her head furiously
[00:04] * Anthony Suthers quickly flicks another switch, and injects some more sedatives into Kakanue's arm vein. He pats her hand, gently.
[00:05] * Anthony Suthers notes that this was a much stronger reaction than when her opinion of Them was asked for in casual conversation.
[00:05] * Anthony Suthers saves those brain scans for future reference, as they may be useful.
[00:08] * Anthony Suthers sets up to record the next set of scans...
[00:09] * Anthony Suthers flicks another switch.
[00:09] * Kakanue is visibly upset for several seconds, but then grows fearful, cowering in her chair as if trying to get away from something she sees
[00:10] * Anthony Suthers quickly measures these responses as relate in a normal person, and flicks a button to flood the Peripherals with pink light and white noise to make the images go away.
[00:12] * Anthony Suthers keeps the soothing feed going for a few seconds, and injects a slight amnesiac into Kakanue's bloodstream.
[00:12] * Anthony Suthers then hits some switches, and the server strains and hard-drive whirs as it loads a very complicated set of data into the Virtual Environment.
[00:14] * Anthony Suthers waits, obviously anxious, for this set of readouts to appear.
[00:15] * Anthony Suthers keeps waiting, noting no immediate response.
[00:18] * Anthony Suthers starts too look pleased, and his smile eases. He changes something.
[00:20] * Kakanue gasps slightly, but soon scrunches her face in disbelief, muttering something into the mask about how that's not possible and she wasn't going to fall for it
[00:22] * Anthony Suthers is alarmed, and floods the machine with white noise, and soothing pink light, and inject Kakanue again with some short-term memory blockers.
[00:23] * Anthony Suthers redundanly copies all of the logs.... and starts dismantling the equipment.
[00:24] * Anthony Suthers unscrews the headpiece, and takes the breathing rig, and eye and ear peripherals off of Kakanue, dimming the lights first so as not to strain her eyes.
[00:24] <Anthony Suthers> Amanda. Amanda Sharlan? It's over.
[00:25] * Anthony Suthers helps her get sit up, and hands her some orange juice. "Do you understand now?"
[00:25] <Anthony Suthers> I think we can teach each other a great deal. Will you help me?
[00:26] * Kakanue gives her eyes a moment to adjust and takes the orange juice, glancing at it before softly sobbing out a chocked 'Yes'
[00:26] <Anthony Suthers> It's okay. It's going to be fine.
[00:27] <Kakanue> It will...I...wow...
[00:27] <Anthony Suthers> Listen. I really think you should stay in your room for tonight, and not go outside where they can find you.

[22:57] <Raihosha> It IS sterile, but should never look it.

[22:58] * Anthony Suthers follows, encouraging Amanda all the way.

[23:02] * Raihosha indicates what looks like a comfortable couch with a large sphere poised above the headrest.

[23:06] <Raihosha> You can stay Mr. Suthers. There shouldn't be much to see if all goes well.
[23:17] <Raihosha> I'd like to strap your limbs down for safety, Ms. Sharlan? When we break the conditioning you may try to flail...

[23:20] * Raihosha indicates some broad padded loops about where one would expect them for such purpose on the couch.
[23:22] * Raihosha places loops over each wrist and each ankle, the loops self-tightening to comfortably but inexorably hold Kakanue in a safe position.

[23:29] * Kakanue slowly grows tired, her eyes drifting closed as her body falls limp
[23:30] * Raihosha keeps on an eye on the vitals.

[23:31] <Raihosha> She's fine so far.
[23:31] * Anthony Suthers realizes he may be distracting the doctor, and becomes perfectly still and silent.
[23:31] <Raihosha> SHe's in a REM state.
[23:33] * Anthony Suthers nods.
[23:33] <Raihosha> Hmm. Aescapulus is finishing up the first round of memory marking...
[23:34] <Raihosha> We're approaching the most recent conditioning block... this may be dramatic...
[23:35] * Raihosha keeps a careful eye on the vitals as they start fluctuating rapidly...
[23:35] * Kakanue is silent for a moment, but her body begins to tense, her hands tightening into fists and her wrists straining against the bindings
[23:36] * Anthony Suthers seems like he's incredibly focused. He crosses his arms, but does nothing. "..."
[23:37] * Raihosha looks tensely at what Aescapulus is doing to break through the conditioning...
[23:37] <Raihosha> almost there...

[23:38] * Kakanue grits her teeth and cries out, tears streaming down her face before she finally relaxes again, falling limp to the couch once more
[23:39] * Raihosha lets out a breath as they break through.

[23:41] <Anthony Suthers> Will she remember this?
[23:41] <Raihosha> Alright... we seem to have cleared out the first set...
[23:42] <Raihosha> She'll remember it, but how she remembers it is uncertain.
[23:43] * Anthony Suthers nods. "I wish there was an amnesiac. She deserves better than this memory."
[23:44] <Raihosha> We have one more set of conditioning to get through. It is honestly healthier if she does remember this?
[23:45] <Raihosha> If this were physical surgery, then yes. But for this? She'll be happier remembering how she broke through.
[23:45] <Anthony Suthers> I shall demure to your judgement. You have done this more than I have.
[23:46] * Raihosha notes Aescapulus and sees Kakanue's vitals starting to fluctuate again.
[23:47] <Raihosha> This is the older conditioning... it has had longer to settle in... this is likely to be even more dramatic than the last one.
[23:47] * Kakanue begins to strain against the restraints again, her feet trying to slide out as she tenses up harder than before. Her teeth clench and she appears angry.
[23:48] * Raihosha tenses up as he guides Aescapulus to various weak points in the conditioning in order to break it more thoroughly.
[23:50] * Kakanue is furiously pulling at the restraints, trying to rip her way out of them while she cries out in frustration.
[23:50] * Raihosha watches her vitals carefully...
[23:51] <Raihosha> just a little more, keep fighting Ms. Shalran.
[23:51] * Kakanue begins to breathe heavily as she fights her way through
[23:52] <Raihosha> almost there...
[23:53] * Kakanue finally relaxes and slumps to the couch, her breathing deep as she recovers from the very powerful reactions

[23:53] * Anthony Suthers finally breathes again.
[23:54] * Raihosha guides Aescapulus as they begin cleaning up from what they've done, and marking any new false memories that have floated in, as well as noting new real memories...

[23:55] * Anthony Suthers does not look away from Kakanue throughout the entire procedure, his face steeled.
[23:55] * Raihosha checks for any other problem areas as he cleans up.
[23:57] * Raihosha is silent as he consults with Aescapulus.

[01:49] <Anthony Suthers> ...I simply was trying to be polite. The seemed like a nice human touch, and I considered that I might want to decorate.

[01:51] <Anthony Suthers> Thes prooobably need to be incinerated. They did NOT start off that large. I've watered them, and given them sun. I imagined that I was simply lucky, because they steadily got bigger.

[01:56] <Anthony Suthers> I'm not sure what the effects are. My caution for exposing innocent people to unknown contaminants outweighs my curiosity, however.

[02:00] <HazMat Prinnies> Standard Operationg Procedure is to blow the interior out with compressed air and then vacuum up what comes out.

[02:08] * HazMat Prinnies descend on the indicated console and start blowing pollen out of every nook and cranny in it.

[02:10] <Anthony Suthers> They are constructed to be redundant.
[02:11] * HazMat Prinnies get the console back to factory clean specs before sealing it back up and looking for permission for the next unit.

[23:22] * Anthony Suthers pushes the Interface Device into the center of the room, and bolts and locks the door behind him.
[23:24] * Anthony Suthers places the and sets up an incredibly formidable-looking chair. It's covered with straps to secure a person to it, and has loads of virtual reality peripherals attached to it. It also has holders for IV stands, and a powerful integrated computer hooked onto it. The headrest is a bi-sected dome that can be screwed over the head of the person in the chair.
[23:24] <Anthony Suthers> I take it you recognize this device, Amanda?
[23:25] <Amanda Sharlan> I do.
[23:25] * Anthony Suthers starts plugging the medical monitoring devices into the power supplies.
[23:25] <Anthony Suthers> I think you need to be placed in it again, would you like to hear the reasons why?
[23:26] * Anthony Suthers fires up the integrated computers, and checks the Virtual Reality peripherals, as well as the IV hookups.
[23:26] <Amanda Sharlan> Well....I don't understand what we need it for...could you explain?
[23:26] <Anthony Suthers> Sure. I'd be happy to, I want the best for you, after all, and I believe that we need to be both open and trusting.
[23:27] <Anthony Suthers> The truth is that, while you doubtless recall that I used this Interface to brief you on the upcoming Event, several things have changed since then, and I want to advise you about them.
[23:28] * Amanda Sharlan nods, "Alright...."
[23:28] <Anthony Suthers> Another reason I feel that it is necessary is the fact that some of the devices that you will be utilizing in your task as security director of Operation Prometheus are keyed to brainwaves so that they can't be used by imposters.
[23:30] * Amanda Sharlan thinks for a moment
[23:31] <Anthony Suthers> I am thrilled at the Therapy you recieved upon Aescapulus, I am thrilled that you are ready to re-enter the greater world.
[23:32] * Amanda Sharlan smiles, "I'm glad to be rid of the torments I've been through."
[23:32] <Anthony Suthers> The doubt that I have is that, now that you have thrown off your conditioning, it COULD have affected your Brainwaves, which would mean that some of that equipment would not be usable by you. I'd like to hook you up to this system again, which can allow me to monitor your brainwaves, and correct any problems I see.
[23:33] <Anthony Suthers> I'll re-record them, and re-set your vital statistics so that you can bypass our scanners again. I'm sure you remember helping me program them for our Guests of Honor. It would be especially ironic if they did not admit you because of the good decisions you have made so far.
[23:33] <Anthony Suthers> Do you understand now? How do you feel about that?
[23:33] <Amanda Sharlan> So...you mean reprogram...
[23:35] <Anthony Suthers> Hmm?
[23:35] * Anthony Suthers looks up from adjusting the contraption.
[23:36] <Anthony Suthers> I'd have preferred to have you in the Interface when you first entered my home, and met my children. But due to the contamination, I have had to alter that. I think this clinic will be fine.
[23:37] * Amanda Sharlan sighs and shakes her head, letting out a slightly nervous breath, "Nevermind...I'm fine."
[23:37] <Anthony Suthers> After this procedure, you will have free-reign around my home. It's ABSOLUTELY vital that you are identifiable by the family IMMEDIATELY.
[23:37] <Anthony Suthers> I have become fearful for my children, and I want to protect them. You included.
[23:38] <Anthony Suthers> I truly believe that undergoing this procedure will ensure you remain safe.
[23:38] <Amanda Sharlan> You think there's something threatening everyone?
[23:38] <Anthony Suthers> Yes. And once you are hooked in, I'll update you. Show you the new developments.
[23:39] * Amanda Sharlan glances at the machine before looking back at Tony, "Alright...."
[23:40] <Anthony Suthers> Amanda. I care for you very much, and I want what is best for you. You know I'm here to help.
[23:40] <Anthony Suthers> You are absolutely free to back out of our agreement if this makes you too nervous.
[23:40] <Amanda Sharlan> No...I'm okay.
[23:41] <Anthony Suthers> Now, did you skip two meals today in preparation for the procedure as I instructed you?
[23:41] <Anthony Suthers> It's important that there's nothing in your stomach.
[23:41] <Amanda Sharlan> Yes...I skipped both lunch and dinner
[23:41] <Anthony Suthers> Okay.
[23:41] * Anthony Suthers laughs jovially. "It's fine if you did not. There is no rush. We can simply re-schedule."
[23:42] <Anthony Suthers> But, I don't think that it is wise or safe for you to take your position as my Chief of Security until you have successfully undergone this procedure.
[23:42] <Anthony Suthers> You do understand that, right?
[23:42] <Amanda Sharlan> Yes
[23:43] <Anthony Suthers> Okay. I just wanted to check everything was ready, since you might be at risk for nausea.
[23:43] <Anthony Suthers> Do you have any other questions to ask before we begin?
[23:43] <Amanda Sharlan> No
[23:44] * Anthony Suthers smiles. "I'll be happy to explain anything you want. But nothing in the setup has changed from the last time, and that was not tedious or traumatic, right?
[23:44] <Anthony Suthers> So you don't need to worry?
