Man just last week I was saying the world did not need a live-action Voltron, but now I'm saying that with this news, if I was a guy, I'd be forming the head right now.
// J_Daito //9:47 AM
I'll deflate that head
Det. Ema Skye9:48 AM
I really hate the whole "you'll own nothing and like it" future.
@[ DR. XADiUM ]9:50 AM
Pirates, of course, will face none of these limitations.
@SpeedRcrX9:50 AM
It's not fair man
you shouldn't have to be a damn digital outlaw just to own something you paid for
FireFly_99:52 AM
Well, it's just another progression in the erosion of the notion of "ownership." These days you can buy a car, but you don't own all the physical features built in.
flame_SNIPER9:53 AM
It just sounds like a "more money than sense" problem to me, Hotaru-chan. Just don't buy those cars.
FireFly_99:53 AM
Yes but how long until there are no other options? For example, Steam is a huge seller of games online. What if... what's the other one... Gag?
@SpeedRcrX9:54 AM
GoG. Good Old Games
FireFly_99:55 AM
Thank you - what if they switch to a license only scheme too? Then what real options are gamers going to have?
Det. Ema Skye9:57 AM
[gTV]Red_Crow9:59 AM
And streaming is no better! Shows go on and off all the time.
@[ DR. XADiUM ]10:00 AM
I will point out that in the old days you got to see a show once when it was broadcast on Network TV and then that was it unless some programmer at the station decided to dig it out of the vault.
[gTV]Red_Crow10:01 AM
That's why Home Video was such a big deal
@[ DR. XADiUM ]10:01 AM
NOT THAT STUDIOS WANTED IT
And if it wasn't for home recordings a lot of stuff would be lost media.
Det. Ema Skye10:04 AM
What's the future going to be like if things keep going like this?
golD_lux10:05 AM
I've seen timelines where it's just endless microtransactions. You get a bunch "free" when you're born and then it's up to you to top up your balance and everything is deducted, even the cost of oxygen.
Det. Ema Skye10:06 AM
What happens if you run out?
golD_lux10:08 AM
If you're "lucky" you get to work in a giant Space Factory producing cheap disposable goods that other people pay credits for and you basically just live out your days in an empty shell of a room eating tasteless nutrition slop or if you're unlucky you get.... "recycled" into the raw materials used to replicate those goods.
Det. Ema Skye10:08 AM
...Swell.
golD_lux10:09 AM
Well that's just one possible future.
I wouldn't worry about it, most of you will be dead centuries before anything like that can get set up technologically.
Det. Ema Skye10:10 AM
NOT HELPING, CRESSIDA
golD_lux10:11 AM
All I'm saying is enjoy being probably one of the last generations who knew the feeling of "owning" your own stuff!
Det. Ema Skye10:11 AM
REALLY NOT HELPING.
