#2: “Movie Review - Versus”

*** Now talking in #suburbansenshi
*** Topic is '-= Michiru displays her ignorance =-'
<Mdm_Maestro> very so often a movie emerges from the cultural wasteland that is modern society which redefines the boundaries of what can be considered "cinematic excellence".
<Mdm_Maestro> These are films so groundbreaking, so awe-inspiring, and so full of raw, visceral impact, that they force the viewer to realize that everything they have ever seen before has been nothing but mere child's play.
<Mdm_Maestro> Versus is not one of those films.
<--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Are you smoking crack or something, Michi? That movie was [BLEEP]ing PERFECT
<// J_Daito //> No one could see that film and not come away without feeling the urge to kick the [BLEEP] out of some cops!
<FireFly_9> I believe you mean monsters...
<// J_Daito //> I work with monsters all the time, why would I want to kick the [BLEEP] out of them?
<GERMATOID> BECAUSE YOU'RE A DARK GENERAL AND A RUTHLESS TASKMASTER?
<// J_Daito //> Besides that, though
<Mdm_Maestro> The brainchild of director Ryuhei Kitamura, this film offers little to the audience beside two solid hours of unremitting gunplay, extreme martial arts fighting, and stylistic ultra-violence set to a loud "techno" soundtrack. Nowhere in this film can there be found soft, sentimental scenes of tender romance, or the gentle hum of a violin.
<--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> i.e. there's no boring bull[BLEEP] or crappy love-triangles to get in the way of the fun!
<FireFly_9> Well there is something of a triangle...
<--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Yeah well
<Mdm_Maestro> . Instead of dignified, upright citizens proudly extolling the virtues of moral life, we see numerous criminal Yakuza making their way through (of all things) a cursed forest doing battle with powerful dark forces. The hero himself is little more than a criminal, dispatching his enemies one after another with an executioner's precision

<--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> ROCK ON, HERO MAN!
<Mdm_Maestro> Watching this movie felt less like watching "Gone with the Wind" and more like watching some ultra-fast-paced Anime offering redone in live action. Repugnant.
<// J_Daito //> Actually I thought it felt more like watching a live action manga
<--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Yeah :) It ruled! It makes Mean Guns look like a SUNDAY SCHOOL picnic! Sure it's no Hemingway plot, but it's got enough... cursed forest, Yakuza, 500 year blood grudge, swords, guns, monsters and mayhem! What MORE do you need?!
<// J_Daito //> A sequel!
*** Disconnected
