[04:10] *** Set by @Dr_Xadium on Wed Nov 22 04:10 2006

[04:10] <@Dr_Xadium> All the people who hate Torchwood need to realize it is NOT Doctor Who expanded
[04:10] <@Dr_Xadium> The worst PR move ever was calling it "Dr. Who for adults" because it isn't.
[04:11] <@Dr_Xadium> The only thing that would be needed to fit that bill would be to a) show the killings in Doctor Who, blood and guts and all
[04:12] <@Dr_Xadium> b) have a realistic level of violence from the creatures (full on fights, sounds of bones cracking etc)
[04:12] <@Dr_Xadium> The odd expletive from the humans and stuff happens.
[04:13] <@Dr_Xadium> Basically restoring it what has to be cut down currently to keep it post-watershed. No other changes have to be made. And Voila, Doctor Who for adults. Like the way Japanese treat anime. If you get hit, you bleed. Simple as that.
[04:13] <@Dr_Xadium> Torchwood is its own animal. It's a crime drama that happens to be set in the same universe.
[04:15] <@Dr_Xadium> This is a world without the Doctor. Where his genius and sonic screwdriver can't save people. Where people are, to be blunt, morons and jerks. Where people have to beat and claw their way through alien threats and humkan threats alike. It's not pretty, and it's not filled with pretty people.
[04:16] <@Dr_Xadium> It is so not its parent show. There are some flaws (why is Ianto still working there? How did he go from being über cool to a blubbering wreck in the country? Or is he only composed in his own element, that of inside the lab?) Gwen and [BLEEP] needs serious explaining.
[04:17] <FireFly_9> Gwen and [BLEEP] is easy to explain once you realize that humans can break mentally and make bad choices.
[04:18] <FireFly_9> Like me having a room with air drafts downwind from Haruka-poppa's.
[04:19] <@Dr_Xadium> Torchwood seems to be one of those shows Doctor Who fans either love or hate, but the level of sheer hating on it is almost risible. It's like people just look for nitpicks.
[04:19] <FireFly_9> Xadium-san.
[04:19] <FireFly_9> You shock me.
[04:19] <FireFly_9> Are you not a Star Trek fan?
[04:19] <FireFly_9> Minako-sempai has SHOWN me your copy of the "Nitpicker's Guide to TNG"
[04:20] <@Dr_Xadium> Yes, I nitpick Trek. And Doctor Who, and Torchwood. I see flaws, but they don't make me appreciate the show any less.
[04:21] <@Dr_Xadium> But with Torchwood it's like "OMG IT'S ANGELLLLLL" and "OH NOES THIS IS SO HORRIBLE IT'S A CLICHE!"
[04:21] <FireFly_9> Not speaking of Torchwood per se, Xadium-san, but is it possible you just have a high threshold for what it takes in a thing to dissappoint you?
[04:22] <@Dr_Xadium> Maybe so.
[04:22] <@Dr_Xadium> It's just that I can get past certain blocks that are apparently insurmountable for others.
[04:23] <@Dr_Xadium> Like one of my friends keeps calling Daleks "Garbage Pails with plungers". The looks seem to utterly prevent him from digging past appearances to the story beneath.
[04:24] <FireFly_9> Much like the effect the presence of Chibiusa-chan has on SuperS?
[04:24] <.'~SugaBB_2999~'.> HAY FACK OFF
[04:24] <FireFly_9> heheh
[04:25] * @Dr_Xadium notes that's a talk for another time, the level of discourse in SuperS is quite deep if you ignore the glaring faults of SAILOR MOON BABIES and NO REAL ARC UNTIL THE VERY END
[04:25] <// KuNZiT3 //> moon babies
[04:26] <@Dr_Xadium> I see you've stopped impersonating Jedite
[04:26] <// KuNZiT3 //> please don't turn me in
[04:26] <FireFly_9> A s[BLEEP]tennou saying please?
[04:26] <// KuNZiT3 //> Oh metallia what have i become
[04:27] * // KuNZiT3 // is away: there must be blood for this
[04:29] <@Dr_Xadium> But yes, much as I love the satirical bent of review sites like https://tachyontv.typepad.com/ (congratulations on pissing off Colin Baker?) they need to realize Torchwood is not meant to be the panacea of deep Sci-Fi they are expecting. At most it's an anthology series with an arc and characters who seem to be the fringe end of the Torchwood organization
[04:30] <@Dr_Xadium> It's my belief that after the events of Doctor Who season 3, Torchwood 3, which was used to doing things in a laid back way suddenyl found themselves in the role of Torchwood 1 and frankly many of them are not up to the challenge besides Jack.
[04:30] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Why don't you just blame it on the Welsh and end it there
[04:31] <@Dr_Xadium> ugh
[04:32] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Anyway, continuing on my EVER SO WONDERFUL TASK FOR GINGA, X, Ive got more stuff for your Wife on OJ.
[04:32] <FireFly_9> Why does anyone care? Why is Minako-sempai digging into this?
[04:32] <@Dr_Xadium> Minako loves gossip, and I think she wants to see OJ fall into his own trap.
[04:33] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Not ALL the copies of the book were pulped. Some got out before the decision to cancel.
[04:33] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> In Simpson's hypothetical scenario, someone named "Charlie" committed the murders, while Simpson simply grabbed the bloody knife away from Charlie, according to sources familiar with the manuscript.
[04:33] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> In a publisher's release announcing the book, Simpson wrote, "I'm going to tell you a story you've never heard before, because no one knows this story the way I know it. It takes place on the night of June 12, 1994, and it concerns the murder of my ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her young friend, Ronald Goldman. I want you to forget everything you think you know about that night, because I know the facts better than anyone."
[04:34] <FireFly_9> I'll bet.
[04:34] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> A source cited by The National Enquirer described the If I Did It's account of the double murder as "so detailed and chillingly realistic—with O.J. as the central figure - that it leaves no doubt it is a confession of what really happened."
[04:35] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> As for the interview:
[04:36] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> The fact that the interview already exists on tape, executives at Fox and News Corporation said, means it is likely to turn up somewhere, perhaps on the Internet.
[04:36] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> So now your lovely wife has me trying to hunt down a copy of this book and the video if either get leaked.
[04:36] <@Dr_Xadium> I'm so sorry, Akane.
[04:37] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> >< I'd give it to Aya but she'd probably just dig up the rent-a-car commercials.
[04:37] * [gTV]Karasuma_Akane likes her boss, but why the s[BLEEP]t jobs why
[04:38] <FireFly_9> Because it would be the lead story? I think Minako-sempai was trying to give you a "big scoop".
[04:38] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> I appreciate that, I really do
[04:38] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> But OJ Simpson is a big scoop of s[BLEEP]t you scrape off the sidewalk.
[04:39] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> You get his stink on you no matter how careful you are.
[04:40] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Haha if I google the book title "If I did it" the relevant AdSense ad is:
[04:40] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> If you did it enough, you'd need BabySakes, the baby book superstore
[04:41] <FireFly_9> I don't think I want children.
[04:41] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Amen to that.
[04:42] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> I'd rather adopt someone old enough to have a decent conversation with without the pooping and the cleaning and the crying
[04:42] <FireFly_9> Then don't adopt a teenager.
[04:42] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> LOL
[04:44] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Oh X how goes the Suburban Senshi 2007 Calendar
[04:45] <@Dr_Xadium> I'm almost done with the first set of 12, I hope to release two calendars in parallel. I will need help getting a large set of Sailor Moon Relevant Dates
[04:45] <FireFly_9> Two Calendars?
[04:46] <@Dr_Xadium> Yes, Minako feels I've been... remiss in my artistic duties to her... >_>
[04:46] <FireFly_9> Oh god.
[04:46] <[gTV]Karasuma_Akane> Aphrodite demands her tribute, eh?
[04:47] <@Dr_Xadium> Quite. So there's one calendar with an assortment of regulars (just about done image wise) and then her "Super Sexy Motivational Calendar"
[04:47] <FireFly_9> Do we even want to know
[04:47] * [gTV]Karasuma_Akane is away: I bet our ratings will go through the roof though
[04:47] * @Dr_Xadium coughs
[04:49] <@Dr_Xadium> So anyway, I need a list of significant days and birthdates, I think I'll generate the actual Calendar bits as separate images so as not to get in the way of the Art too much.
[04:49] * FireFly_9 is away: Thank god she's keeping her version separate, my image would look... bad in that context.
[04:50] * @Dr_Xadium is away: It is not wise to deny the Goddess of Love
[04:50] *** Disconnected
