[10:15] *** Wed Jun 29 2005 - LOGGING START ***
[10:15] *** Now talking in #suburbansenshi
[10:15] *** Topic is -= Snowcrash here we come =-

[10:15] <@S.X. Aino> It's kinda rare when I'll be impressed by something I see on the narrow internets of the 21st century Earth, but at last I've found something.
[10:16] <// J_Daito //> I see you have found my fan sites, Sneaky Future Girl
[10:16] <@S.X. Aino> You're a Hippie in the future.
[10:16] <// J_Daito //> SCANDALOUS LIES
[10:17] <@S.X. Aino> This program is the beginning of the future of unified information services, and unsurprisingly it's from Google.
[10:17] <FireFly_9> Do you know, Sakura-chan, I begin to worry about them. Every year the amount of data and information they collect grows.
[10:18] <FireFly_9> If I were one for conspiracies I'd almost imagine they were the civilian front of a military information gathering arm.
[10:18] <// J_Daito //> Why Military? They get what they want anyway legally, using wiretaps etc. I bet more along the lines of some shadow cabal.
[10:19] <FireFly_9> You have a point there.
[10:19] <@S.X. Aino> LOLs if you guys only knew who the prime oracular organ of the octopus illuminati was XD
[10:19] <FireFly_9> Who is it, tell me?!
[10:20] <@S.X. Aino> If I told you, they'd have to kill you. All of you. And anyone who ever read this log.
[10:20] <// J_Daito //> So why won't they kill you?
[10:21] <@S.X. Aino> Let's just say I know the puppetmasters who have their hot little hands up the puppetholes of your planetary masters.
[10:21] <// J_Daito //> We need to talk someday, Time Lady from Gallifrey.
[10:21] <@S.X. Aino> XD
[10:21] <@S.X. Aino> Anyways, check this program out
[10:21] <@S.X. Aino> --> http://earth.google.com/
[10:21] <// J_Daito //> It won't run on my computer
[10:22] <@S.X. Aino> Nor will Windows 98 :P
[10:23] <@S.X. Aino> The zoom levels are insane, you can hit any point on earth subject to what I consider to be a deliberate error margin of anywhere from a few feet to a few miles, and you can even highlight local stores and eateries of interest along with crime and census data, and elevations of sufficient height are even bump-mappped so you can fly around mountains etc
[10:23] * FireFly_9 loads and runs this
[10:24] <FireFly_9> The earth looks like a fuzzy ball
[10:24] <@S.X. Aino> Wait for it to stream the data from the servers; broadband is absolutely needed
[10:24] <FireFly_9> Sakura-chan, are the constellations here accurate?
[10:25] <@S.X. Aino> Indeedy!! You can see out from space, and zoom all the way in to practically 100 ft above target.
[10:25] <FireFly_9> They hould use this type of engine for video games
[10:25] <@S.X. Aino> They will, one day.
[10:25] * FireFly_9 ponders that spinning around the earth like this, descending through the clouds, it's almost like the feeling of omniscience.
[10:26] <@S.X. Aino> Innit? XD
[10:27] <@S.X. Aino> This site here is useful for looking up latitudes and longitudes, you can search for a point of interest, then put the co-ords in the "fly to" tab on the left in the form xx.xxxx , xx.xxxx
[10:27] <@S.X. Aino> --> http://www.worldwindcentral.com/hotspots/
[10:27] * FireFly_9 does that and watches the globe spin around under her.
[10:28] <FireFly_9> This kind of a program to me symbolizes the promise and the threat of the internet.
[10:28] <@S.X. Aino> Yeah, in the future you're going to see info portals that use front ends like this. You select your region and zoom, and look up all required data. Much more human intuitive.
[10:29] <FireFly_9> What scares me is that the military must have even more sensitive data in real-time.
[10:29] * @S.X. Aino chuckles
[10:30] <@S.X. Aino> You worry too much about the military-industrial complex. As long as they have their funds they won't descend into Argentina-style totalitarianism. Politicians will do that for you XD
[10:30] <FireFly_9> ><
[10:32] <@S.X. Aino> Seriously, the societal shaping you lament is quite gentle in application compared to what has happened in the past. These days, economic forces and factors are the primary tools of internal statecraft, not weapons and jackboots in the streets.
[10:32] <FireFly_9> But is that a sustainable model, I wonder? How long before someone decides that is taking too long.
[10:32] <// J_Daito //> No one cares, Goth no Senshi
[10:33] <@S.X. Aino> Hotaru-P... frankly, any kind of internal conflict on that scale will be nothing more than a distraction. Study your history and you'll see the wheels have been turning far, far longer than this. You humans have such a limited historical viewpoint it's sick. Anything past 2 generations back may as well have not even happened.
[10:35] <@S.X. Aino> As my good friend Chief Aramaki Daisuke will have said several decades from now, "follow the money and there ye dhall find your answer"
[10:36] <@S.X. Aino> hee --> http://suburbansenshi.kasterborus.net/x/2005/sakura2k5.jpg
[10:37] <FireFly_9> Nice likeness. :)
[10:38] <@S.X. Aino> Oh by the bye, how's that divorce trial thingy going?
[10:38] <// J_Daito //> --> http://suburbansenshi.kasterborus.net/divorce/03.gif
[10:39] * @S.X. Aino checks it out
[10:40] <@S.X. Aino> hah!
[10:40] * FireFly_9 is not amused
[10:40] <// J_Daito //> I was hahahahah
[10:41] <FireFly_9> ><
[10:41] *** Disconnected
[10:41] *** Wed Jun 29 2005 - LOGGING END ***

Saruka is correct in her assesment. Sadly, quite a few people don't seem to derive *any* kind of knowledge or wisdom from the past. Forget 2 or 3 generations past, some people seem to forget events beyond 2 or 3 years! Why *is* that, anyway?
