[03:03] <FireFly_9> Well, in all fairness, it is their product to do with as they wish...
[03:03] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> So like if I drink Pepsi, and then Pepsi Co. decides I should only be able to drink Pepsi from one place
[03:04] <FireFly_9> You are free to drink, or not drink. Their product, their rules. It's not an entitlement of yours, Haruka-poppa.
[03:04] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> So if they're being jerks, and jerking people around, I should shut up about it then...?
[03:05] <FireFly_9> What good will it do? Either you will be ignored, or they give up and take their product away. Either way, you lose.
[03:06] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Not so! So I take the hit. If it means I don't get treated like crap, so much the better. There are plenty of others who are willing to treat me with respect and dignity. I will take my service from them, and thus the market adjusts. Polite product makers will be treated well, impolite ones will be blacklisted. That's how it goes.
[03:07] <FireFly_9> But if the commodity is unique?
[03:07] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Then it's like an abusive relationship... they have something you want, which, to be fair, they may have worked long and hard to produce... but then they decide to make you jump through hoops for it. At some point you either become their b[BLEEP]h for all time in exchange for their love and presents, or you pick up your courage, summon up your dignity and either walk out or call them on it, possibly both
[03:09] <FireFly_9> But at the end of the day it's still *their* right to do with it as they wish.
[03:09] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Yeah, it's *their* ball, no two ways about it. But if they pick it up and walk out, what the hell is the point? They'd be making it for no one but themselves, which, if they're that good, is pointless. They're doing it because they want love from the consumer. The f[BLEEP]ing irony is the consumer LOVED them-- until they forgot something-- consumer relations. They want us to kiss their [BLEEP], but they forget that it's a two way street. I mean, strictly put, what they provide is a convenience. Nothing more. all the ingredients are out there, they aren't vital to life. People like things easy, to just go with the flow and hope it blows over
[03:13] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> That just makes [BLEEP] worse, IMO, because once they [BLEEP] on you, they'll keep on doing it to see how far they can go until either 1) you are own3d or 2) you rise up
[03:14] <FireFly_9> "The Nail that sticks up will be hammered down"
[03:15] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> [BLEEP] that s[BLEEP]t... I never was nobody's nail. If PepsiCo treats me like crap, I may have to give up Pepsi, even though I might like it-- but I'll like not having my face smeared in their crap on a daily basis even better. Plus, there's always Coke.
[03:17] <FireFly_9> And what if there wasn't Coca-Cola?
[03:17] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> I won't lie, I'd be in withdrawl.. I'd suffer... but at the same time, I'd know I wasn't just a cog in somebody else's damn machine...
[03:18] <FireFly_9> Aren't we inflating this beyond a simple gripe?
[03:18] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Look, you and I don't always get along, right, but listen... I'm not totally useless. For example, Rod Serling, a guy who wrote a lot of the Science fiction I saw as a child, said about Hollywood execs: "Here's how they get you: they bring you to Hollywood, and they pay you vast amounts of money for what you write. Slowly, your standard of living begins to rise to where now you NEED that income every day to maintain it. And then they threaten to take it away from you...and then they own you."
[03:21] <FireFly_9> Interesting, but I'm not following,,,
[03:22] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Well in this case, they're giving it away for free, and we want it, because we're fans, it's fun and we're interested. And then over the weeks our standard of living rises as we get used to having it as part of our entertainment diet, and then, with these games and threats they threaten to take it away...
[03:23] <FireFly_9> ...and then they own us?
[03:23] <--=[ SpeedRcrX ]=--> Only if we let them, 'Taru-chan... only if we let them.

O.o
Too much rambling >.<
My head hurts

Sheikm [e-mail] • 03/15/04 01:47pm

Good, nothing to serious. That's the main point.

Seiya Kou [e-mail] • 03/15/04 08:57am

Pepsi makes revenue from people drinking their products, so it wouldn't be profitable to sell them from a pepsi stand in disneyland exclusively... I wouldn't compare them to geeky guys on power trips trying to sucker people into selling their souls to them ;) Those don't really care how much people grab their products...

Dirk-Kun • 03/15/04 05:36am

Don't worry about it, I'm just rambling about something that by all rights I shouldn't be sticking my nose into... it's nothing serious.

Xadium • 03/15/04 04:04am
