[09:07] <GERMATOID> SO I WAS THINKING LAST NIGHT
[09:07] <FireFly_9> Always a scary thought.
[09:08] <GERMATOID> AND IT OCCURS TO ME THAT PERHAPS IRC IS A BIT TOO "OLD-SCHOOL" FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE TODAY
[09:08] <GERMATOID> WE TRIED ICHAT BUT EVERYONE SEEMED TO THINK IT TOOK TOO LONG TO LOAD
[09:08] <FireFly_9> I don't have a problem with IRC, papa.
[09:08] <GERMATOID> YOU'RE ALSO A STICK IN THE MUD, DEAR, SO NO ONE LISTENS TO YOU! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[09:08] <FireFly_9> :/
[09:09] <GERMATOID> SO MY QUESTION TO ANYONE READING THIS IS:
[09:09] <GERMATOID> WHAT DO THE COOL KIDS USE TO MULTI-CHAT THESE DAYS
[09:09] <@SpeedRcrX> I bet everyone's moved on to voice
[09:09] <GERMATOID> WELL THAT'S USELESS FOR LOGGING PURPOSES SO IT HAS TO BE TEXT BASED
[09:10] <GERMATOID> LEAVE YOUR ANSWERS IN THE COMMENTS HERE
[09:10] <@SpeedRcrX> The comments don't show up for the older entries unless you hit "Comments" :<
[09:10] * GERMATOID WILL WORK ON THAT LATER
[09:11] <GERMATOID> DEPENDING ON WHAT ANSWERS I GET SSIRC MIGHT CHANGE AGAIN! MUAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I joined a scanlation group as a proofreader and was pleasantly surprised to find they use Skype to multichat. It's pretty darned efficient.

Personally, I like the IRC mode. Then again, I'm not anything close to a 'cool' kid. :P
Keep up the good work!

Maybe I shouldn't be posting here, since I'm significantly past 40 and not "cool kid" material. But I think Forums are the way to go these days. Most of the vibrant online communities I see are built around a forum of some kind - fark, spamusement, even genvid forums. IRC requires simultaneous online time, and everybody is too busy/overscheduled for that. We each need to accumulate messages and read them when we're ready. Old-school, that implied BBS (seriously, connect over a land line?), email (hard to manage with more than one recipient) or usenet (too public, too spammable, and subject to "retention time" limits).
