#123: “Oh, very cute. (Last Political Post for a while) ”

<FireFly_9> I bring you the latest in Military Haute Couture:

"There is no reason why they should not enjoy them in training," said a spokesman for the British Ministry of Defence in this article.

<FireFly_9> Marvelous. Utterly marvelous. Speaks volumes about the mindset behind this whole affair, I say. Isn't this war too much like a blasted video game already?
<FireFly_9> Say what you want, but I'm almost sorry for the advances in technological "killing-at-a-distance" warfare. Having to get right down into the trenches and go at it hand-to-hand, whilst infinitely more deadly, at least made most sane generals ponder the ramifications of their warmaking a lot more deeply than is happening now.
<FireFly_9> Do you ever wonder why Vietnam was such a national wound for so long? The horrors of war had been brought home. We were face-to-face with---
<FireFly_9> Oh, forget it. Never mind. It's all pointless now, anyway. The rights to the oil prize have already been assigned to Britain, the pieces are already on the chessboard, and the absence of evidence is, of course, as is consistent with the superior logic being applied to this situation from its very inception, not being taken as the evidence of absence [of WMD].

"The fact that the inspectors have not yet come up with new evidence of Iraq's WMD program could be evidence, in and of itself, of Iraq's noncooperation," Rumsfeld explained.

<FireFly_9> Yes, because NOT finding contraband MUST imply that they HAVE it. It could NEVER mean that they are BEREFT of the objects you seek. That would simply be INCONCEIVABLE.
<FireFly_9> I am galled and disgusted for so many reasons. It has become a giant game, one which we feel comfortable about playing only because our technology will allow us to turn the battlefield into a flat plain of blasted rubble before we even set foot upon it. We have nothing to lose (in the short term, anyway. Our global reputation and goodwill will be damaged for generations, but who cares what other people think, right? Unless they have nuclear weapons FOR REAL, in which case we'll fawn all over them. See the miracle case of Kim Jong-il.)
<FireFly_9> But I know no one really wants to hear all this, so this will be my last post on all this here. Maybe I'll say something more when all the shooting gets underway / stops.
<FireFly_9> One last thing: Remember those identical letters I talked about? They were form letters, from GOPteamleader.com.
