#121: “As Haruka-Poppa would say...GOTCHA!”

*** Now talking in #suburbansenshi
*** Topic is '-= =-' .

From the Press Democrat: EDITOR: When it comes to the economy, President Bush is demonstrating genuine leadership. [...] Contrary to the class warfare rhetoric attacking the president's plan, the proposal helps everyone who pays taxes, especially the middle class. [...] [signed] TREVOR CARLSON Santa Rosa

<FireFly_9> Now whatever on Earth is going on? It seems to me that lacking a true groundswell of support, certain parties are taking it upon themselves to generate support, in a manner not dissimilar to the owner of a new business who parks his own cars in his business parking lot so that he might give the impression of having a prosperous establishment, in hopes of drawing in legitimate customers. Well, I, for one, am not buying it.

<FireFly_9> For more fun, please note that a number of other "identical letters" dated last October and November can be found by searching Google for the phrase "taking a courageous stand against Saddam." You will find copies at: The Albany Herald ~ The Bremerton Sun ~ Hispanic Vista ~The Progressive ~ Pakistan Link ~ Indiana Times Union

<FireFly_9> Perhaps next time they will try being a little less obvious about it all. Although I don't think they can really help themselves much at this point in that regard.
<// J_Daito //> Uh-oh... what are those men doing in that black van over there?

~~Heh, didn't say it encouraged thinking. Just where its coming from. Half the time I don't even read what they've written, I just put my name there and ship it off. Lazy!

Possibly so... but that sort of thing does nothign but encourage woolly thinking about the issues at best, in my view... and at worst, no thinking at all.

~~I could tell "Jadeite 1" what the men in the black van are doing, but that would spoil the fun...

~~I can see where this is coming from though. I subscribe to a 'Conservative Alerts' mailing list. Every few weeks they they send an e-mail about a particular issue with a link to a form which has a written statement on that issue (editable, but I'm often too lazy.) After you put your name and address in the fill-out sections, you hit "Send" and that gets e-mailed to various press and public officials. Logic is if a couple thousand people do this, the officials might pay attention and/or the press recipients of the e-mail might randomly select one to print in their newspaper.
